The Ascension Parish Student Handbook provides important information regarding student expectations, discipline, attendance, dress code, and student rights and responsibilities.

Student Rights & Responsibilities
Students have the right to:
- Receive a quality education
- Learn in a safe and supportive environment
- Access school programs without discrimination
Students are responsible for:
- Attending school regularly
- Following school rules and expectations
- Participating in learning activities and maintaining appropriate behavior
Attendance Expectations
- Students are required to attend school regularly (167 days per year)
- Excused absences include:
- Illness (with documentation)
- Family emergencies
- Court appearances
- Pregnancy/parenting-related absences
- Students must request make-up work within 3 days of returning
- Parents must provide written excuses within 5 days
Student Behavior & Discipline
- Students must follow all school rules at school and school-related events
- Behavior expectations apply:
- On campus
- On the bus
- At school events
- Even off-campus if it impacts school
Serious offenses may include:
- Drugs or weapons
- Repeated suspensions
- Dangerous behavior
Possible consequences:
- Loss of privileges
- Suspension
- Expulsion
Students are expected to:
- Respect others
- Follow safety rules
- Report unsafe behavior
Dress Code (Grades PreK–8)
Clothing:
- Khaki bottoms (pants, shorts, skirts, etc.)
- Navy collared shirts
- Shirts must be tucked in
Shoes:
- Closed-toe and closed-back shoes only
Not Allowed:
- Jeans, sweatpants, or tight-fitting clothing
- Flip-flops or slippers
- Distracting accessories or inappropriate designs
Additional Guidelines:
- Clothing must fit properly
- No distracting hairstyles or unnatural hair colors
- Limited jewelry allowed (small stud earrings only)
Consequences:
- Parent contact
- Dress correction required
- Possible discipline for repeated violations
Bus Safety
Students must:
- Follow all bus rules
- Sit in assigned seats
- Keep body parts inside the bus
- Respect the driver and other students
Misbehavior may result in:
- Loss of bus privileges
- School discipline consequences
Technology Use
- Students must follow the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)
- School devices are for educational purposes
- Misuse may result in:
- Loss of device privileges
- Disciplinary action
Parents may be responsible for damage if not covered by protection plans
Health & Student Services
- Schools provide screenings and support services
- Parents will be notified of any additional testing
- Students may receive services such as:
- Counseling
- Therapy services
- Health screenings
Parent consent may be required for certain services
Parent Information & Rights
Parents have the right to:
- Review student records
- Be informed about student progress
- Provide or deny consent for certain programs
Parents are responsible for:
- Keeping contact information updated
- Supporting student attendance and behavior
